Chopped

Friday, we were planning to take Joslin to a Reds game, but the weather was supposed to be pretty cold so we decided to think of a different plan.

One of our popsicle stick date ideas was to do our own Chopped show from the Food Network, but I could never figure out how to do it with just the 2 of us....problem solved with Joslin. :)

So we went to Jungle Jims (the most amazing grocery store ever!) and had fun just walking around and looking at everything. Then we split up with $2 each to pick out an ingredient. It was fun to be secretive about it at the check out and in the car. Once we got home we each revealed what we had selected and then we had to make a dessert using our mystery ingredients.

Because we knew we were making a dessert and we actually wanted to enjoy our dessert, none of us got something totally weird, but it was still really fun trying to think of a way to use all of it in a creative way. Joey got lemon wafers, Tommy got tamarind soda (we had no idea what that was), and I got frosted animal crackers.
We decided to make a type of napoleon  We cut the wafers to make the layers, beat the soda into greek yogurt, crushed the animal crackers and heated them on the stove with some soda to make a sauce (that was actually super good. It kinda carmalized) and then we layered it all, and sprinkled some crushed animal crackers on top.
It was very simple, but we were pleased with how it turned out. They were almost too sweet, but had really good flavors. It was a lot of fun!
